Your information

All information gathered through the use of The App will be subject to the SOGO GOLF Privacy Policy.

Rules of Golf

All SOGO GOLF Competitions will be conducted under the Rules of Golf.  As well as this, all players must follow and abide by the Local Rules applied by the course that they are intending to play.

Handicap

All SOGO GOLF competitions (excluding the SOGO National Final) will be played using the GA Handicap System.

Players will be issued a ‘SOGO Handicap’ when competing in the SOGO National Final.  The SOGO Handicap calculation will be different to the GA handicap, in that it will recognise the qualification scores of a golfer as well as their current handicap.  The SOGO Handicap will be overseen and verified by the PGA of Australia. This handicap will be issued to the qualifier 1 week prior to the SOGO National Final.

Competition Tees

All SOGO rounds must be played on tees with a registered slope rating for that golf club. All tees with a slope rating will be available for selection via The App.

Scoring Format

All SOGO rounds will be played using the stableford scoring system. This type of scoring allows golfers with a range of abilities to compete against one another, while limiting the impacts of bad holes for beginning golfers. The SOGO Competition Structure

The SOGO Season

The SOGO season will run from 1st November to 31st October each calendar year.  The 2016 season will commence later upon launch of The App, resulting in a reduced number of months and reduced pool of rounds for the 2016 season.

SOGO Multi-layered Competition Structure

Every competition round played, hereafter referred to as a “Round”, will count towards a multi-layered competitions structure including a daily national 9-hole competition, a daily national 18-hole competition (for 18-hole entrants only), a monthly state-based 9-hole competition, an annual national 9-hole competition and an annual national 18-hole competition (for 18-hole entrants only).

SOGO Daily 9

Every Round that is played using The App will be automatically entered into qualifying for the SOGO Daily 9 competition.  The SOGO Daily is a nationwide 9-hole event.  The winner will be determined by the best stableford score.  The cut-off for SOGO Daily 9 Rounds will be 11:59pm AEST (or AEDST) on that day, at which time the following SOGO Daily 9 competition will become active.  Final results will be provided via email at 4:30am AEST (or AEDST) the day after a SOGO Daily competition has closed.

Winners of the SOGO Daily 9 competition will receive invitation to the SOGO Majors competition series for that year.

SOGO Daily 18

Every 18-hole Round that is played using The App will be automatically entered into qualifying for the SOGO Daily 18 competition.  The SOGO Daily 18 is a nationwide 18-hole event.  The winner will be determined by the best stableford score for a single Round.  The cut-off for SOGO Daily 18 Rounds will be 11:59pm AEST (or AEDST) on that day, at which time the following SOGO Daily 18 competition will become active.  Final results will be provided via email at 4:30am AEST (or AEDST) the day after a SOGO Daily 18 competition has closed.

Winners of the SOGO Daily 18 competition will receive invitation to the SOGO Majors competition series for that year.

SOGO Monthly

Every Round that is played using The App will be automatically entered into qualifying for the SOGO Monthly competition.  The SOGO Monthly is a state wide event. The winner will be determined by calculating the best 3 x 9-hole SOGO Rounds submitted in that calendar month.  The cut-off for SOGO Monthly Rounds will be 11:59pm AEST (or AEDST) on the last day of that month, at which time the following SOGO Monthly competition will become active.  Final results will be provided via email at 2:00pm AEST (or AEDST) the next business day after a SOGO Monthly competition has closed.

Winners of the SOGO Monthly competition will receive invitation to the SOGO Majors competition series for that year.  Winners and place-getters of the SOGO Monthly competition will also be awarded a range of prizes.  These prizes will be communicated prior to the commencement of the SOGO Season.

SOGO National Final Qualification

Every Round that is played using The App will be automatically entered into qualifying for the SOGO National final.  Qualifying into the SOGO National Final will be based on the golfer’s best Rounds throughout the SOGO Season, on criteria that will be decided by SOGO management and communicated to SOGO members.  Criteria may include selecting monthly and annual performance of certain golfing groups including sorting by age bracket, state of membership, sex and membership status.  Criteria will be taken across different cross-sections of cards (such as best 5 Rounds, best 25 Rounds and best 50 Rounds).  Criteria will also be assessed for 9-hole and 18-hole performance.

The final selection criteria will be communicated to golfers prior to the commencement of the SOGO Season, and will be selected to recognise the best performing golfers across the year, while encouraging representation and participation across the broad golfing community.

Winners and place-getters of the SOGO Monthly competition will also be awarded a range of prizes.  These prizes will be communicated prior to the commencement of the SOGO Season.

SOGO National Final Format

The top 88 qualifiers throughout the SOGO Season will be invited to play in the SOGO National Final.  This event will be conducted over 6 x 9-hole Rounds over 2 days on a set golf course.  The 2016 final will be held on two consecutive week-days in Sydney, Australia at a course chosen by SOGO management.  Future locations for the SOGO National Final will be chosen and communicated to players prior to the commencement of the SOGO season.

Unless otherwise stated qualifiers will be responsible for their own travel arrangements as well as any fees to play in the SOGO National final.  Any fees will be communicated prior to the commencement of the SOGO Season.

The SOGO National Final will be played in groups of four, with each group overseen by a PGA Professional.

A selection of backup players will be invited to attend the SOGO National Final in case of non-attendance by any of the qualifiers.  Once the final 88 competitors have been confirmed, a repechage tournament will be held on a neighbouring course amongst the remaining backup players.

The SOGO Majors

The SOGO Major series will be open to qualifiers only and will coincide with the official Golfing Majors.  These four events will be held across four days and will be open to qualifiers throughout the year, as determined by SOGO. This will include daily national winners and other event winners.

Once a golfer is entered into the Major, they will have Thursday, Friday, or Saturday of that week to play a 9-hole Round.  The top 50% of players will then qualify and make the cut to play the final Round on Sunday.

Winners of a SOGO Major will receive a SOGO Major Jacket and entry into the SOGO National Final competition.  Winners and place-getters of the SOGO Monthly competition will also be awarded a range of prizes.  These prizes will be communicated prior to the commencement of the SOGO Season.

SOGO GOLF Rules of Play

Tie Breakers

There will be no tiebreakers in the SOGO Daily Competition.  All players that finish on the winning stableford score in either the SOGO Daily 9 or SOGO Daily 18 Competition will qualify for the SOGO Majors Series.

In the event of a tie in any other SOGO GOLF Competition the following will determine a winner:

  • A Count-back by taking the lowest net score for the last nine holes played (holes 10 to 18 or 1-9 if only nine holes played). If tied players have the same score for the last nine holes, then the winner will be determined on the basis of the lowest net score for the last six holes, then the last three holes and then hole by hole from the eighteenth hole (or ninth hole for 9-hole competitions).

  • Sudden Death (SOGO GOLF National Final) In the case of a tie at the SOGO GOLF National Championship Final a stableford sudden death play-off will be used to determine the winner.

  • The time allowed for a result and the sequence of holes to be played will be announced by the match committee at the time of commencement of the play-off.

Prizes

All prizes will be issued in accordance with the R&A amateur status guidelines. Prizes will be issued for SOGO Daily, Monthly, Majors and National competitions.

Changes to the Rules of Play

SOGO Management reserves the right to amend these rules at any time.  SOGO Management will conduct a review and update of these rules at the commencement of each SOGO Season and communicate this to all members.

SOGO Management will endeavour to only change these rules during the SOGO Season where a clarification is required, or if an urgent change is necessary to maintain the integrity and fairness of the SOGO GOLF Competition.

The Rules of Play will be subject to any changes to the overarching Rules of Golf.
